Commonwealth Games: Igali, Kia Receive Gold medalist

The president of Nigeria Wrestling Federation who double as commissioner for youth and sports Development Bayelsa State Hon. Baraladei Daniel Igali and the Executive Chairman of Southern Ijaw local government area Hon. Kia Nigeria has received Commonwealth games medalist from Birmingham TrackNews reports.

However, it was learnt that Wrestler Blessing Oborududu won Team Nigeria’s second gold medal of Day 8 of the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Meanwhile, Oborududu defeated Linda Morais in the 68kg women’s category final. Her victory came hours after compatriots Odunayo Adekuoroye won the country’s sixth gold medal at the event also in the wrestling event.

Mercy Genesis has increased Nigeria’s Gold medal in the wrestling event for Nigeria at the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games to three after beating Canada’s Madison Parks 3-1. Genesis won a gold medal in the Women’s Freestyle 50 kg.

TrackNews recalled that at the unveiling of the team Nigeria at the Federation office in Yenagoa Hon. Kia Nigeria promised the athletes a cash gift of one million if any of them win Gold, while Silver medalist is five thousand naira as well as three hundred and fifty thousand for bronze medalist.

Generally, the performance of Team Nigeria is excellent, phenomenal, and commanding. A signpost of better performances in the future. Congratulations to Team Nigeria athletes and officials on their history-making feat at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The athletes have once again demonstrated the true Nigerian spirit, the success in Birmingham is an indication that Nigerian sports is on the rise again in spite of the global economic downturn.
