Comr. Francis Obule Condemns Calls to Scrap DESOPADEC, Labels Advocates as Saboteurs
Comrade Francis Obule (JP), the Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Political Matters, has strongly criticized the recent calls to scrap the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), labeling those advocating for its closure as enemies of progress.
In a press conference held in Warri, Comrade Obule urged Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to ignore such calls, emphasizing that DESOPADEC remains a crucial agency for the development of oil-bearing communities in Delta State. He highlighted DESOPADEC’s role in bridging the gap between the government and grassroots communities, especially following the departure of major oil corporations like Shell.
Comr. Obule emphasized that DESOPADEC’s projects and initiatives are visible across the state’s five ethnic nationalities, showcasing its commitment to the welfare and development of the people. He argued against distributing DESOPADEC’s resources directly to communities, citing potential discord and unrest such a move could cause.
Warning against the consequences of scrapping DESOPADEC, Comr. Obule emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability in Delta State. He cautioned that any action leading to the agency’s closure could ignite crisis and disrupt the state’s progress.
Comr. Obule called on the public and stakeholders to disregard the calls to scrap DESOPADEC, stating that the agency’s continued existence is vital for the state’s prosperity and development. He emphasized the need for more attention and funding for DESOPADEC to enhance its operations and facilitate ease of doing business with the commission.
Despite differing opinions, Comr. Obule’s defense of DESOPADEC underscores its significance in Delta State’s socio-economic landscape, serving as a pillar of unity and collective service towards Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda.
