Confusion in Ekiti PDP as Fayose, Olujimi set up separate Atiku campaign councils
– The PDP in Ekiti seems divided as former governor of the state, Ayodele Fayose and Senator Biodun Olujimi set up separate campaign councils
– It was gathered that the original plan was to make Kolapo Olusola, a former deputy governor of Ekiti, the head of the campaign council
– This came after Fayose, in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, chose Chief Dipo Anisulowo as the council’s director-general
Ayodele Fayose, the immediate past governor of Ekiti and Senator Biodun Olujimi, the Senate minority leader, on Tuesday, January 8, inaugurated separate presidential campaign councils of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
On one hand, Fayose, in Ado-Ekiti chose Chief Dipo Anisulowo as the council’s director-general, Olujimi, on the other hand selected Yinka Akerele for the same office, Punch reports.
However, until recently, Fayose and Olujimi had agreed to inaugurate Kolapo Olusola, a former deputy governor of Ekiti, as the head of the presidential campaign council in the state.
The issue degenerated into a sort of confusion in the state chapter of the party when on Monday, January 7, Olujimi faulted a publication released by a pro-Fayose group, saying it was at contrary to what was agreed on during their meeting, that was why she rejected the council.
Speaking on the development, Fayose said that he had been fair to the caucuses of the party in Ekiti in constituting the campaign council by allowing caucus leaders to choose representatives for the team.
The former Ekiti governor stated: “I won’t ever fight for leadership. It is the people who will identify their leaders. I am not contesting any election.”
Senator Olujimi, on her part said: “Why we are here is that we are saying that we cannot shift the goalpost in the middle of the game. We are standing by the original list.
“If the party’s stakeholders met and selected people, no individual, including Fayose, has the right to void same.
“Those appointed have started work. They have even written letters to the state government for the use of the stadium. They were supposed to have been inaugurated on January 3. Suddenly everything changed and Fayose tinkered with the list.”
Earlier, TRACKNEWS.NG reported that the national chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus, had been petitioned by Olujimi to disband and reconstitute the Atiku Abubakar campaign council in Ekiti.
Olujimi alleged that the council had been hijacked by Fayose, whom she accused of appointing his cronies in all strategic positions.
