Controversy As Imo House Members Deny Sending Mace To Edo Assembly For Impeachment
TRACKING____Over the weekend, there was a grand plot by the Adams Oshiomole led faction of the house of assembly to impeach the speaker and swear in 14 new house members who all belong to the APC.
On getting notice of the planned coup, the Edo state governor was said to have locked the house of assembly and commenced renovation of the complex.
Speaking, the special assistant to the governor on media and communication strategy, Crusoe Osagie had said that the assembly members had been meeting at the former legislative chambers due to the renovation and wondered why the aggrieved assembly members would want to force their way into the chambers which is currently under construction.
Tippers were seen heaping sand and other work materials at the entrance of the complex thereby blocking all the entrance into the place.
Due to this action, the aggrieved members secured another location for their assignment, this was said to be a private residence of one of the assembly members.
At their sitting, it was noticed they had another mace which was not the original mace from the Edo state house of assembly.
Speaking, the governor, Gowin Obaseki accused the former APC chairman, Adams Oshiomole, and the Imo Governor, Hope Uzodimma, of plotting to unseat him.
He also accused the Imo Governor of procuring the mace and prompting the gathering of the 17 aggrieved house members to plan his impeachment.
The Imo state house of assembly has, however, denied sending their mace to Edo state.
Letting their position known, the spokesman of the House, who doubles as the house committee chairman on information and judiciary, Hon. Dominic Ezerioha completely denied the allegations calling it a fabrication from enemies of the state.
While speaking with newsmen, he said the Imo state assembly has no business with the situation in Edo state and confirmed that the Mace of the Imo Assembly is safe and hidden in a very sacred place.
