Court acquits minor of manslaughter in Rivers

A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has discharged and acquitted a 15-year-old boy, Emmanuel Chibuike, who was standing trial on alleged manslaughter.
Chibuike was charged for manslaughter under Section 236 of the Criminal Code of Nigeria, for stabbing 20-year-old Ahmed Buhari to death in self-defence in November 2020 at Mile 3 Diobu in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The presiding judge, Justice Else Thompson, in her judgement, said it is in no doubt that the deceased was killed in self defence by the defendant who he was bullying.
According to the judge, the accused was discharged and acquitted because the prosecution was unable to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt that the minor committed manslaughter
