The Federal High Court’s Abakaliki Division has confirmed Joseph Nwobasi, the former leader of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, as the genuine candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the Ezza North/Ishielu federal constituency in the 2023 general election.
In a decision delivered by Justice Fatun Riman, the court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to accept and publish the name of the plaintiff (Nwobasi) as the APGA candidate for the federal constituency of Ezza North/Ishielu.
The court agreed with the plaintiff that Edwin Nwonu, the incumbent member representing the constituency on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform, is not an APGA member and cannot replace Nwobasi as an APGA candidate in the 2023 general election.
The court barred the APGA leadership, Nwonu, or their agents from attempting to substitute the plaintiff’s name as the party’s candidate ahead of the election.
