Court Dismisses Suit Challenging Arrest of Commercial Sex Workers in Abuja

The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit seeking to prevent the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) from arresting and prosecuting commercial sex workers in the capital.
Justice James Omotosho ruled that the application lacked merit, stating that prostitution remains an illegal act under Nigerian law. The lawsuit, filed by a rights group, argued that the arrests were discriminatory, but the court maintained that the AEPB acted within its legal authority. The judge also emphasized that prostitution contradicts Nigerian cultural and legal norms.
