78-year-old man hacks blind 94-year-old brother to death over land
The Police in Ogun State have arrested a 78-year-old man, Moshood Habibu, for allegedly hacking his 94-year-old blind brother, Salisu Surakatu, to death over land.
Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Abimbola Oyeyemi said the incident happened on Wednesday, November 24.
Oyeyemi, who disclosed this to newsmen on Saturday, alleged that Moshood stormed Surakatu’s house at Kara Ewumi Village, Mowe on Wednesday, and macheted him to death after a disagreement over land.
Abimbola said the Police arrested the suspect the same day after Aminu Tajudeen, said to be the biological son of the deceased, reported the killing at the Mowe Police Division, where Chief Superintendent of Police(CSP), Saminu Akintunde, is the Divisional Police Officer (DPO).
He said: “On interrogation, the suspect claimed that the deceased sold a plot from their family land but didn’t give him his own share of the proceeds and that he went there that morning to demand his share which led to a hot argument between them.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect went to the deceased’s house armed with a cutlass, and when he got there, the deceased, who was visually impaired, didn’t know he came with a cutlass. While the deceased was asking him to leave his house, he descended heavily on him and macheted him to death.”
He quoted the Commissioner of Police (CP) Lanre Bankole as directing that the suspect be transferred to the homicide section of the state’s criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and prosecution.
