EFCC Reveals Investigations into Multiple Celebrities for Naira Abuse
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced that it is currently investigating several Nigerian celebrities who may have been involved in the abuse of the Naira, Nigeria’s national currency.
The revelation came in a statement by the EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, on Sunday, April 15, 2024.
The EFCC has already summoned some of the celebrities in question and gathered useful statements from them.
The agency has been made aware of viral videos showing the abuse of the Naira and has recognized the public’s efforts in raising awareness about the sanctity of the national currency.
The Commission appreciates the public’s support and involvement in this matter and is committed to the enforcement of all relevant laws regarding the abuse of the Naira, as well as the dollarization of the Nigerian economy.
The statement from the EFCC emphasized that the Commission will continue to investigate and prosecute anyone involved in the abuse of the Naira, including those who have been identified in old videos.
The Commission also warned that going forward, new videos of such infractions will be investigated and prosecuted.

The EFCC is currently investigating several celebrities for their involvement in Naira abuse, and many of them have made useful statements to the Commission.
This comes after the recent arrest and sentencing of popular cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, who was found guilty of defacing the Naira notes.
Bobrisky was arraigned on a six-count charge by the EFCC and subsequently sentenced to six months in prison by a Federal High Court in Lagos.
The Commission has reiterated its no-sacred-cow mode of operations and has warned the public to be wary of running afoul of laws against the abuse of the Naira.
The EFCC’s Special Task Force against Naira Abuse and Dollarization of the economy has been in operation since February 7, 2024.
This development highlights the EFCC’s commitment to ensuring that Nigeria’s national currency is respected and that the country’s economic and financial laws are upheld.
The Commission’s efforts in this regard are aimed at safeguarding the integrity of the Nigerian economy and promoting the proper use of the Naira.
