Cross River begins disbursement of scholarships next week

By Adeleye Kunle
Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has given the state scholarship board the green light to disburse scholarships to eligible students.
The Director General, Cross River Scholarship Board, Comrade Nuela Tessy Anyin disclosed the development in Calabar while fielding reporters’ questions.
Lauding the governor for looking into the plight of Cross River students, Anyin said: “Disbursement will begin as early as next week. Students of Cross River extractions should brace for the educational support programme of the government.”
According to her: “The governor granted express approval for the commencement of bursaries. He has also ordered that exercises leading to such payments begin as soon as the coming week.”
He averred that by next week, the scholarship board will begin to liaise with “student union leaders and stakeholders in the tertiary education sector in a bid to quicken the process for payments.”
The scholarship, she avowed, will serve as a palliative for the hardship caused by the prolonged strike action and the prevailing harsh economic realities.
She further disclosed that a soon-to-be-launched website, designed for the purpose, will be used to enhance a hitch-free registration process.
She concluded by calling on students of Cross River origin in institutions of higher learning to take advantage of the initiative for the advancement of their educational pursuits
