Davis Cup: Nigeria outclass Angola in first game

Nigeria had a good start to the 2023 Davis Cup Africa Group IV international tennis tournament after dismantling Angola 3-0 yesterday in Kigali, Rwanda.

First on the clay court for Team Nigeria was Wilson Igbinovia who defeated Fernando Andre 6-1, 6-3 while Christopher Bulus beat Chris Lukanu 6-4, 6-4.

In the doubles, the Nigerian duo of David Ekpeyong and Uchenna Oparaoji combined to defeat the Angolan pairing of Fernando Andre and Denilson Bento 6-3, 6-2 to wrap up an emphatic win for Nigeria.

Up next for Nigeria today in Pool B is a clash with Mozambique who lost 3-0 to hosts Rwanda earlier yesterday.

Top two teams from the two round robin pools of A and B will qualify for the semi-final where winners will pick up the two promotional tickets available in the competition.

The competition will come to a close on on Saturday.
