Dead Body Of Popular Kenyan LGBTQ Activist Found Inside Metal Box
Popular LGBTQ activist and fashion designer, Edwin Chiloba has been found dead by Kenyan police on Wednesday, January 4.
According to the Spokesperson for the Kenyan Police, Peter Kimulwo, the motive behind the gruesome killing is yet to be known.
But human rights organizations in Kenya, where gay s3x is illegal has linked the gruesome killing to his sexuality.
One of the minority groups disclosed that more than half of LGBTQ Kenyans have been assaulted.
Announcing his death, HereForAll via verified handle on Twitter wrote: “Words cannot even explain how we as a community are feeling right now. Edwin Chiloba was a fighter, fighting relentlessly to change the hearts and minds of society when it came to lgbtq+ lives. Another soul lost due to hate.”
An eye witness, who happened to be driving by the area when the body was dropped in a metal box on the road in Uasin Gishu County, had reported to police officers stationed at a roadblock around the site of the incident.
On opening the box, police discovered the body of a Chiloba dressed in woman’s clothing, local news media, The Star reported on Friday.
The deceased was transferred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue where the body will undergo a post-mortem to establish the cause of death.
While stating that motive for the killing was not yet established, Police Spokesperson, Resila Onyango, said, “Experts are handling the matter.”
Uasin Gishu Head of Directorate of Criminal Investigation, Peter Kimulwo, also affirmed that officers of the agency were already following crucial leads which may hopefully result in arrests.
“We will tie up some information we have and that may lead to arrests,” he said.
