Delta State Govt Denies Alleged Disagreement Between Gov Oborevwori and Okowa
ASABA______In a recent statement issued on Friday, the Delta State Government firmly rejected claims of a rift between the incumbent Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, declared the reported disagreement, as published by the Daily Times, to be a product of the writer’s imagination, asserting that there is no ongoing cold war between the two prominent leaders.
Ahon underscored the warm relationship between Governor Oborevwori and Senator Okowa, categorizing the published allegations as entirely false and a fruitless attempt at sensationalism. He emphasized that the Governor would, in due course, appoint the two remaining Commissioners.
Expressing their displeasure with the report, Ahon stated, “We have read with great dismay, the unsavoury and sensational report on an imaginary cold war between Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, as published by Daily Times Newspapers. We condemn the hatchet job and its unappetising and distasteful content as it is a clear imagination concocted by the reporter.”
He further criticized the report for failing to adhere to journalism ethics by not seeking clarification from the individuals involved before publishing. Ahon urged the newspaper to retract the publication, considering it a misrepresentation of the facts.
The statement underscores the importance of responsible and ethical journalism in reporting on public figures and disputes.
