Edo 2024: I Will Respect Traditional Institution – Okpebholo
The governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Sen Monday Okpebholo yesterday promised that his administration will accord due respect to traditional institutions if he wins the September 21 election.
Okpehbolo, who spoke at the party’s campaign flag off at the open field of Eribo Estate in Benin City, Edo State, also promised to “rebuild dilapidated schools” and “revamp the primary healthcare institutions” across the state.
The party was flagging off its campaign at Egor local government area of the state in Benin City, Edo State capital where the revered monarch The Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, resides.
Speaking earlier at the event, APC leaders urged electorates to vote for Okpebholo and his deputy, Hon Denise Idahosa, noting that their administration will accord respect for the traditional institutions, ensure development to every sector and end alleged diversion of public funds.
Former Governor Adams Oshiomhole, assured the people that all the alleged diversion, embezzlement, and oppression perpetrated by the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration will be swept away.
He said the APC is battle ready to challenge any attempts by the PDP to compromise the forthcoming election.
On his part, former deputy governor of Edo state, Pius Odubu said only meaningful development recorded in the state was during the administration of Senator Adams Oshiomhole, adding that Edo cannot afford another years of PDP bad and lackluster government in the state.
The director general of the APC campaign, Senator Mathew Uroghide, said APC is proud of the party’s candidate and his deputy for their performance in their constituency and senatorial district, adding that they are electable and ready to win the next month’s governorship election.
Uroghide said “We are not here for any jamboree but for the message of our candidates. We are not like the other party that is hiding their candidate. We are proud of our candidate with this massive turn out is a clear testimony that the people of Ogor are happy with our party.
“We must tell the people of Edo South why we decided to choose Monday Okpebholo. Okpebholo as a senator is representing five LGA . That is almost one third of the state. Since he has done so well, we decided to shift the governorship to Edo Central senatorial district.
“And in return for Edo South he has promised to revamp agriculture, security, employment and above all pledged to respect and uphold the Benin traditional institution. Obaseki, who is from Edo South, has failed us. For Dennis Idahosa, it is clear he has the mandate of his people and that is why he has continued to win election after election in Ovia federal Constituency.”
