Edo State Govt Bans Activities Of Drivers On Wheels And Road Transport Employees Association Of Nigeria (RTEAN).

The Edo State Government, under the leadership of Governor Monday Okpebholo, has announced an immediate ban on the activities of certain groups whose operations have been linked to a series of violent and cult-related incidents across the state. These groups, namely Drivers On Wheels and the Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), have been identified as posing significant threats to the peace, safety, and progress of Edo State.
Over recent months, the state has witnessed an alarming rise in violence attributed to the actions of these groups, disrupting public order and endangering the lives of innocent citizens. Investigations have uncovered a pattern of involvement in cult-related activities, extortion, and intimidation, which have created an environment of fear and insecurity, particularly in the transport sector. Their actions have not only destabilized communities but have also hindered the smooth operation of lawful transport services that are crucial to the economic well-being of the state.
In response to these activities, Governor Okpebholo has directed all security agencies to take decisive action to enforce this ban. They have been alerted to apprehend any individuals or groups found to be conducting activities under the banners of Drivers On Wheels or RTEAN. This directive is part of the government’s commitment to restoring peace, ensuring the safety of its citizens, and maintaining a conducive environment for economic growth.
Mr. Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, emphasized that the government will not tolerate any action that compromises the safety and security of the people of Edo State. He noted, “The actions of these groups have proven to be inimical to the progress of our state. We are committed to taking all necessary measures to eradicate these threats and to bring any perpetrators to justice.”
The Edo State Government calls on all citizens to support these efforts by reporting any suspicious activities linked to the banned groups to the nearest security agency. This cooperation is essential as the government works to secure a brighter, safer future for all residents.
