EFCC Watchlist: Obiano Meet Buhari Behind Closed-doors Days To Tenure Expiration
President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday played host to the Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano at the Aso Rock Villa.
Tracknews understands that the closed-door meeting between the two political heads is coming two weeks to the end of Obiano’s tenure expiration.
Though the purpose of the meeting is yet to be known, there are however insinuations on social media that it may not be unconnected to the move to probe the incumbent governor by anti-graft agencies.
It could be recalled that Obiano had announced earlier that he would be going to the US to rest after his tenure as governor.
The politician had lived in the US, after his retirement with Texaco as a Chartered accountant, before he was called back home to serve as governor.
However, last year, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) placed Obiano on its watchlist.
The anti-graft agency alleged that Obiano had questions to answer, and may possibly try to leave the country.
Incidentally, as at the time of the declaration, Obiano was overseas, and there were insinuations that he may never return home, but he returned to the country and called the bluff of those who were making insinuations about his attempt to escape, Tracknews reports.
Obiano had however replied to those making jest of the situation, stating that he had no question to answer, and more so, no reason to want to flee the country.
He reminded those who wanted to intimidate him that he was still the governor and still had his immunity intact.
