Election: Obi reacts to arrest of Nnamdi Chude who tweeted against Soludo, APGA
Mr Peter Obi, on Tuesday, expressed ‘regret’ over the arrest of Nnamdi Chude, a fervent supporter of his party.
Track news reports that the Police in Anambra State on Saturday arrested Chude for tweeting against Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo.
Chude tweeted on Saturday, alleging that Soludo’s political party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, was involved in the rigging of the House of Assembly election.
He claimed that Soludo was instrumental to the rigging, adding that some thugs carted away ballot boxes.
Reacting to the development, Obi, in a series of tweets via his Twitter handle on Tuesday afternoon, insisted that Chude’s arrest is a further confirmation of Nigeria’s poor Rule of Law.
He also appealed to all concerned to please treat the issue most objectively on the rule of law and compassionately release Chude.
Obi tweeted, “After due enquiries, I regret to say that the arrest of Mr Nnamdi @chude__ is a further confirmation of Nigeria’s poor and declining performance in the Rule of Law, Voice and Accountability, and other governance indicators.
“While I appreciate that the freedoms must be exercised in line with the rule of law, arresting Nigerians for tweeting on their leaders and those in authority decimates the opportunity for inclusive governance and accountability, which are highly needed in a developing country like Nigeria.
“I, therefore, appeal to all concerned to please treat the issue most objectively on rule of law, and compassionately release the young man in question. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. – PO.”
