Emefiele Gate: DSS interrogates former MD of old generation bank yesterday, stopped two bank CEOs from traveling out of the country
The Department of State Services (DSS) interrogated the former MD of an old generational bank yesterday.
Also, two bank CEOs were stopped from travelling out of the country.
The Department of State security agents are working both day and night to unravel how trillions of Naira disappeared from the Central Bank of Nigeria during the tenure of the former Central Bank governor, Godwin Emefiele.
Most of this money was used to buy shares from first-generation banks all over the country.
According to the investigation by the security agents, an individual will pose as a contractor to the CBN, a contract will be awarded to the individual, and the proceeds of the contract would be used to buy shares.
The DSS has begun to scrutinize the number of shares bought in the last eight years and trace the source of the money that was used to buy them.
A popular figure in the banking industry was invited to Abuja yesterday to face the DSS panel, he was let off the hook after spending six hours with them.
A flour mills company was also used to siphon billions of Naira all through eight years, through the fraudulent double fx regime.
The company was awarded millions of United State Dollars with questionable rates. The difference between the reduced fx rate and the black market rates were been paid to a designated account in Naira.
The detectives have discovered so many fraudulent activities associated with Emefeile’s regime running into trillions of Naira, and very soon the public will be surprised by the damages caused by Emefiele to the Nigerian economy.
Recently, two underage boys were arrested by EFCC officials for defaulting on the N10 billion agricultur intervention loan collected from the CBN. On interrogation, the underage confessed that someone in the Villa used their account to collect the money, and they were only given N20,000 each.
These and many more are some of the mind boggling discovery the DSS has uncovered from their investigations in the tenure of Emefiele all through his over eight years tenure.
More discovery of his looting game is still unfolding.
Recall that the DSS had tried to arrest the suspended apex bank chief during the twilight of past president Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure.
They were however unsuccessful.
The secret police had levelled all kinds of charges against him ranging from funding unknown gunmen, Eastern Security Network, ESN and Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, with money he raised for his failed presidential bid last year and funds diverted from government coffers.
Other charges levelled against him include the mismanagement of Nigeria’s social investment pprogram – NISRAL and Anchor Borrowers Scheme; committing illegal economic crimes of national security dimension; money laundering; unwholesome activities through proxies; round tripping; conferment of financial benefits to self and others and criminal conspiracy to divert government resources.
However, about two weeks ago, barely three weeks after President Bola Tinubu took oath of office, he ordered his immediate suspension and directed that he immediately hands over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor in charge of Operations Directorate, who will act in his place pending the conclusion of the investigation and the reforms.
He was immediately arrested and the DSS flew him to Abuja from Lagos where he was hibernating.
