Employee Commitment: Commissioner For Trade Meets With Staffers
…Charges Them To Be Resourceful, Productive
The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Trade, Industry and Investment, Dr Ebieri Jones has charged staffers of the Ministry to make good use of their time in order to be Resourceful and Productive in their various departments.
Dr Jones gave the charge at a general meeting of Management and Staff of the Ministry today, 27th May, 2024, at the Ministry’s Conference Hall, Secretariat Annex 4, Yenagoa.
In his remarks, Dr Jones glorified God and appreciated the Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri for his reappointment as a Commissioner and deployment to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Investment in this second term of the Prosperity Administration.
He further appreciated the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Barr Patience Abah, Management and Staff for their commitment and commendable working relationship in their various departments.
While noting that he was sent to the Ministry to implement the Vision of His Excellency, Governor Douye Diri for the State. Dr Jones stressed that a good civil service should be one that implements the Vision of Government.
In response to some critical questions, suggestions and opinions on how to motivate staff, move the Ministry forward, achieve required results and further increase the State’s IGR, Dr Jones noted that there will be a training and retraining of staff to enhance productivity in their line of duty.

His word, “The Governor has short term and long term goals to improve revenue generation. We would explore the underground economy to improve on our revenue base including the need to have Revenue Agents in the various LGAs that will monitor the registration of business premises and make the necessary payments”.
“We will review the tenancy agreement in the markets to determine infractions and would revoke some where necessary and lease them to Bayelsans.
“We also need to protect the consumers by going to the Supermarkets and shops to check on those goods that are not good for consumption, in collaboration with NAFDAC.
“For the Mechanic Village, Government has already approved a place for them which will be more accommodating when it’s ready.
“We have already started talking with potential Investors from China. The Governor is interested in those investors that are ready to Invest in Bayelsa. The Prosperity Government is ready to partner with Investors to build factories.
“We will collaborate with Federal Agencies and those agencies reporting to the Ministry, groups, bank managers in the State, owners of supermarkets and building material dealers and other segments in the State to discuss on how we can together grow the State’s economy.
“Arising from the opening of the Yenagoa branch of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, we will also meet with exporters and potential exporters to establish possible funding gaps and discuss with Bank of Industry (BOI) to fund them and guide indigenous businesses to access grants from relevant agencies”. Dr Jones stated.
