#EndSARS: Lawan sympathises with The Nation over burning, destruction of property

TRACKING____The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has sympathised with the management and staff of The Nation Newspaper over the recent burning and destruction of its headquarters in Lagos by suspected hoodlums.
Suspected hoodlums had set The Nation-building on fire and burnt vehicles and property of the company following the #EndSARS protests.
Lawan in a letter dated 28th October 2020, and addressed to the Managing Director/Editor-In-Chief of The Nation, described the incident as unfortunate.
He urged The Nation to remain focused and continue to discharge its duties in line with global best practices.
The letter with reference number: NASS/9th/S/SP/F/05/344 and titled: “Condolence over the unfortunate fire incident” reads in part:
“It is regrettable that what started as a peaceful protest around the country against the activities of a few bad elements in the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigerian Police was hijacked and misdirected by hoodlums to unleash mayhem and anarchy across the land resulting in the wanton destruction of public goods and services, looting of private property and death of citizens.

“Unfortunately, the Nation Newspaper, a national newspaper that serves as an independent monitor of Power has had to bear the brunt of this anarchy, and its property was torched by these miscreants.
“It is on this note that I write to convey the Senate and indeed the National Assembly’s deepest sympathies to you, the Management and staff of your organization over the unfortunate incident.
“It is our earnest desires that the hopes and aspirations including the desired reforms being yearned for are achieved.
“While we enjoin you and the entire staff to remain focused and continue to discharge your duties in line with global best practices, please accept the assurances of my highest esteem.”
