EPL: Why I warned Haaland during 1-1 draw with Everton – Guardiola

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has revealed he warned Erling Haaland about getting himself sent off in a 1-1 draw against Everton on Saturday.Haaland was shown a yellow card for a lunge on Vitaliy Mykolenko midway through the first half. The Norway striker then left James Tarkowski on the pitch with a flailing arm as he shielded the ball. After the game, Guardiola refused to criticise referee Andy Madley but hinted that City’s players don’t get enough protection from officials.“It was a (deserved) yellow card for Haaland. He was a bit angry about the first action on his ankle (by Godfrey).“I told him to be careful because we can’t play 10 against 11 and he reacted well.“Against Leeds, three or four fouls on Jack Grealish and nothing happened.“I don’t want a relationship with the referees. I don’t care. They do their job, it is fine,” Guardiola said.Haaland grabbed his 21st goal in the Premier League to give City the lead but Everton levelled with a stunning strike from inside the box by Damarai Gray.
