Ex-VP Sambo, Dambazau Throw Weight Behind League of Northern Democrats’ Mission to Transform Region

Notable Northern elites have commended the formation of the League of Northern Democrats (LND), a new group aimed at uniting major stakeholders from the North to proffer solutions to the numerous challenges facing the region.
Former Vice President Arc. Muhammad Namadi Sambo and former Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Abdulrahaman Bello Dambazau (Rtd.) have endorsed the LND, describing its formation as “timely” and a “veritable platform” to address the region’s challenges.
Sambo, while hosting the LND leadership at his Abuja residence, expressed his support for the initiative, noting that the region faces numerous challenges, including insecurity, which has crippled agriculture, education, and healthcare, exacerbating poverty and inequality.
Dambazau, in a separate letter, praised the LND’s formation as a “crucial initiative” that presents an opportunity to galvanize efforts towards addressing the region’s challenges and repositioning the North for a more prosperous future.
Challenges such as insecurity, poverty, illiteracy, destitution, unemployment, and drug addiction among youths
The LND, convened by Dr. Umar Ardo, aims to tackle challenges such as insecurity, poverty, illiteracy, destitution, unemployment, and drug addiction among youths. The group is scheduled to hold a historic summit in Kaduna in October, with Vice President Kashim Shetima expected to attend.
The LND has appointed former Kano State Governor Senator Ibrahim Shekarau as its protem Chairman and former HoR member Hon. Emmanuel Jime as its secretary, amongst other eminent Northern Nigerians. The group is non-aligned with any political party or ethnic/religious affiliations.
