Apart from being a means of entertaining people, music is also a tool for expression and speaking on social vices. But only a few artistes, including Falz The Badguy, explore that by volition.

The award-winning rapper and entertainer’s latest single, ‘Talk,’ has, since debuting, drawn nationwide attention and many, especially his colleagues in the industry, already feel he might be targeted by politicians.

Falz has continued to make himself a mouthpiece of the people against social injustice and political matters so much that he has been referred to as the Fela of our time. ‘Talk’ is coming a few months after he released ‘This Is Nigeria,’ which was also seen as controversial so much it was banned upon debuting, last year.

In the wake of numerous reactions to ‘Talk,’ ace rapper, MI Abaga, also added his opinion about the song via his twitter handle and as far as he is concerned, Falz needs to be shielded from what is to come. “Falz needs to be protected at all all all cost people!” he wrote emphatically.

In the past, other rap artiste have also used the genre which is seen as a veritable tool to voice one’s mind and the feelings of the people, to push for necessary change about issues or register their displeasure about the wrongs of society. Vector the Viper, for instance, once released a single he titled ‘Lagos SARS.’ While another rapper, Idris Abdulkarim, took it to the next level when he released ‘Nigeria Jagajaga,’ to the consternation of then president, Olusegun Obasanjo.
