According to reports, the unfortunate incident occurred when the suspects had an altercation with the deceased and brutally assaulted her by strangling her to death in circumstances which are not only questionable but evidently malicious. Sadly, without informing her family or consulting with them, in a bid to cover the unlawful act, the suspects through one Etem they paid a quack doctor to unlawfully remove the baby from the deceased womb and deposited her corpse in the mortuary, UGEP General Hospital and also buried the baby.
Consequently, the couple absconded. But the family wrote a petition to the Cross Rivers State police command which was approved. The perpetrators of this heinous crime were tracked, arrested at their hideout today. The man who was harbouring them made a statement and confessed to the fact that he was the one who paid the N40,000 for the removal of the baby from the deceased without the approval of the family and buried them.
