FCT’s First Female Senator, Ireti Kingibe Defeats Aduda At Election Petition Tribunal

Abuja September 12, 2023 – Labour Party Senator Ireti Heebah Kingibe has won her election petition against Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Philip Aduda.
The Court in Abuja today upheld Kingibe’s victory in the February 2023, FCT senatorial election.
The court dismissed Aduda’s petition, which alleged that there were irregularities in the election. The judges ruled that the election was conducted in a free and fair manner and that Kingibe was the rightful winner.
Kingibe’s victory is a major boost for the Labour Party, which is seeking to increase its representation in the Nigerian Senate. She is the first woman to represent the FCT in the Senate.
In a statement, Kingibe thanked the court for its ruling and said she was committed to serving the people of the FCT. She also called on Aduda to accept the ruling and join her in working for the development of the nation’s capital. Aduda has not yet commented on the court’s ruling. The victory of Kingibe is a major setback for the PDP, which had hoped to retain control of the FCT Senate seat. The party is now facing a challenge from the Labour Party in other parts of the country as well.
