An Igbo socio-political pressure group, Eastern Peoples Front (EPF) yesterday in Enugu endorsed candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 16 presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and his running mate, Mr. Peter Obi, saying that supporting Atiku was about Igbo survival in Nigeria.
Addressing a press conference at Sports Club Enugu, EPF’s National Executive Committee (NEC) in a communiqué read by its National Coordinator, Elder Ken Emechebe described any “appeasement” to the current administration in the country led by President Muhammadu Buhari as ‘a dangerous thing, and tantamount to committing suicide.”
The group said “Atiku/Obi Ticket provides accelerated pathway for Nigeria President of Igbo extraction through a major political party in Nigeria.
“Between the PDP and the APC, Atiku Abubakar was the only candidate that committed to handing over power to the Igbo as equity and fairness demand.
“Atiku Abubakar is the only candidate that committed to practical and constitutional restructuring of Nigeria to devolve power to the federating units, and restore true federalism and also ensure real autonomy of the Judiciary.”
Also speaking, the former Minister of Power and Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), Prof. Chinedu Nebo described those who visited President Buhari at the State House Abuja to apologize for Ohanaeze’s endorsement of Atiku Abubakar as charlatans seeking personal aggrandizement, saying that in due time they would realize their folly and apologize to Ndigbo.
Insisting that Chief Nnia Nwodo was still the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo contrary to an assertion by suspended Secretary-General of the body, Uche Okwukwu, Nebo said that any vote for President Buhari was a vote against Ndigbo, stressing “Ewe refuse to be cowards in the face of intimidation and brutalization against Ndigbo by the present administration.”
