Millions of naira paid to bandits as ransom in Kaduna – Traditional rulers allege
The Emirs of Zazzau and Brinin Gwari, Alhaji Ahmed Bamali and Alhaji Zubairu Maigwari II, has explained that their subjects have paid unimaginable hundreds of millions of naira as ransom to bandits.
They made their position known at the presentation of 2020 security reports to Governor Nasir El-Rufai in Kaduna.
The Emir of Brini Gwari revealed, “lt is terrible when you see 200 to 300 bandits with weapons surrounding a village and killings people and collecting their money. Our people paid hundreds of millions of naira as ransom.”
The Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Ahmed Bamalli, while commending the security forces for their efforts, noted, “We still have challenges in Zaria, Giwa because after 6pm some areas become no go area. There are other dangerous places.”
Traditional ruler of Zangon-Kataf, Agwatyap, Chief Dominic Yahaya, explained that in spite of occasional banditry and kidnappings in his domain, he stated that the peace committee he set up was not discouraged to ensure peaceful coexistence in the area.
Sir Dominic Yahaya added, “However, when perpetrators are arrested and taken to the police, we don’t know what happened afterwards.”
