Most wanted armed robber Obio aka Sly arrested in Calabar

A security team led by the Cross River State Security Adviser (South), Mr. Leo Nyambe, has arrested a notorious and most wanted armed robber, Obio aka Sly and his gang.

TrackNews Online gathered that the gang was arrested at Bayside in Calabar South Local Government Area, following a raid by the local security outfit.

According to Ekeng Inyang, SA Strategic Communication to Governor Ben Ayade, the criminal gang was arrested on Tuesday, December 15, 2020.

“Today (December 15) in a manhunt for kidnappers, armed robbers and criminal gangs within Calabar and it’s environs, the just appointed State Security Adviser (South), Mr. Leo Nyambe in a joint operation with residents of Bayside Neighborhood Security Services led a raid that saw to the arrest of notorious armed robber by simple name Obio aka Sly.

“Residents confessed that the clamped criminal have been a torn on their flesh, leading and abating major armed robberies and kidnaps in the State.

“Inyambe in collaboration with his neighborhood security head from Bayside Community, Hon. Effiong Ekarika and Olu had lay siege waiting to capture the notorious robbery and kidnapping gang leader Sly aka Obio, with one of his gang member who are are presently in the police custody being apprehended with a locally made pistol”, Inyang said.

Meanwhile, a statement by Mr. Christian Ita, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Governor Ayade on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, said that about 300 criminals have been arrested in just a matter of days in the state.

“Governor Ayade is working very hard to rid the state of criminals and criminality and those who live in the state can attest to this fact with security patrol vehicles visible at every strategic location.

“During the launch of Operation Akpakwu, Governor Ayade handed over 100 patrol vehicles fitted with cutting edge communication gadgets, 10 power bikes and drones to the outfit.

“In essence, security agents in the state now enjoy the benefit of technology, including surveillance from the sky.

“So far, close to 300 suspected criminals have been arrested in just a matter of days. The crackdown on criminals in the state is on and no jaundiced write-up will deter the governor from fulfilling his promise to return Calabar in particular to the paradise it once was”, Ita stated.
