Femi Adesina: Senators Threatening To Impeach Buhari Are The Minority Of Minorities
By Adeleye Kunle
Senators who have threatened to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari over rising insecurity, according to presidential spokesperson Femi Adesina, are “the minority of minorities.”
Adesina spoke on Wednesday.
Earlier on Wednesday, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senators staged a walkout after a motion by minority leader Philip Aduda was defeated.
After Senate President Ahmad Lawan refused to allow Aduda to present his motion on insecurity, the lawmakers left the chamber.
Following the walkout, the minority leader stated that he wanted to give President Muhammadu Buhari an ultimatum to address the country’s insecurity — or face impeachment proceedings.
In response to the threat of impeachment, Adesina stated that the senators are wasting the country’s time.
“The truth is that in this type of scenario, the minority will always have a say while the majority will always have its way.” You are aware of the national assembly’s composition. “Those who spoke today constitute a minority of minorities,” he said.
“They will have their say because it is necessary in a democracy, but it will not go beyond that.” I believe it was just bravado, and unfortunately, security is not something that can be subjected to bravado.
“You don’t start issuing flippant ultimatums in a matter of life and death.”
“They know in their hearts that they can’t do what they’re saying.” They are simply wasting the time of the country and the upper chamber of the national assembly; they know they will fail.”
