FG forbids foreign models from appearing in Nigerian advertising media
Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
In Nigeria’s advertising media, the federal government has outlawed the use of foreign models and voice actors.
This year’s October marks the implementation of the new policy.
The declaration followed a resolution by the Advertising Regulating Council of Nigeria (ARCON), the federal government’s top regulatory body for advertising, advertisement, and marketing communications, to expand the Nigerian advertising sector.
according to the legal responsibilities and authority granted to it by the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria Act No. 23 of 2022.
The local economy and local talent were intended to be protected by ARCON’s policy, the ministry stated on its Twitter account yesterday.
On August 22, 2022, Dr. Olalekan Foladapo, the Director General of ARCON, announced a new ban on foreigners.
However, he asserted that the current advertising programs would be allowed to complete their terms and that the new policy would not have an impact on them. The Advertising Standards Panel will not approve any subsequent requests for revalidation for the ongoing exposure of such ads, he stated (ASP).
