The finals of Chief Mitema Obordor draught competition was bomb. I never expected to see a local game that will be more interesting than football. In the past people use to see draught aka draft players as jobless people. But all that has changed for good.

According to the initiator of the competition Chief Mitema Obordor who is the member representing Ogbia Constituency one and Deputy Majority Leader of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, he is of the view draught is not a game for lazy and jobless people. It is now a money spinning event. He said his intension for initiating the competition was to promote a local sport that will enhance the organic solidarity of the people away from politics like we once had.

To reward those who took part in the competition, he also gave out prizes to all twelve finalist who took part in the game. First prize was N50,000 cash with an industrial gas cooker; second was N40,000 with a defreezer; third prize was N30,000 a freezer. Others went away with can gifts and consolidation prizes.

The event witnessed the association of draught players, Bayelsa State chapter. It’s state chairman, Chief Charles Paul, who incidentally took part of the competition, the publicity secretary and others were in attendance. They commended the state governor for discovering the local sport and promoting it to international level. The association also commended Chief Mitema Obordor for taking a queue from His Excellency and showing deep love for the game.

It was fun and really overwhelming to see how happy constituents we’re to have an event that is outside of the usual political ramblings.

They appreciated their lawmaker and prayed that he continues with his people oriented programs.
