Fire Destroys Electronics Shop in Borno’s Monday Market

A fire outbreak on Monday night destroyed an electronics shop at Monday Market in Maiduguri, Borno State. The affected shop belonged to Mohammed Abba Malam, the Chairman of the Electronics Sellers Association in the state.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire started around 7 p.m., consuming home appliances worth millions of naira. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Confirming the incident on Tuesday, the spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, stated that officers quickly responded to a distress call and secured the area to prevent looting. Firefighters also arrived at the scene to battle the flames.
Daso noted that only Malam’s shop was affected, and no casualties were recorded in the incident. The quick response of emergency personnel helped contain the fire before it could spread to other shops in the market.
A trader, Hassan Abdullahi, confirmed that while the fire resulted in significant losses, the intervention of the police and fire service prevented further damage.
As of the time of reporting, authorities have not determined the exact cause of the fire or the estimated value of the lost property. Investigations are expected to be conducted to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
