Fire razes 10 cars impounded by traffic agency in Abia
No fewer than 10 cars seized by the Abia State Traffic and Indiscipline Management Agency (TIMAAS) got burnt in a fire outbreak on Thursday.
The cars were razed at the premises of the Abia State Meteorological Complex, Umukalika in Obingwa Local Government Area.
The affected cars were impounded before a court declared TIMAAS an illegal body.
A High Court sitting in Obingwa Judicial Division declared TIMAAS an illegal body not created by any law of the State House of Assembly.
It took the intervention of the personnel of the Abia State Fire Service, Aba to stop the fire from spreading to other parts of the complex.
The fire services saved other vehicles still being detained by TIMAAS in the yard even after the court pronouncement.
The cause of the fire outbreak is unknown.
Sources at the state Fire Service said they were suspecting activities of hunters who sneak into the yard in search of bush meats.
Some said it could be smokers who may not have properly put out their cigarettes or weed ash.
