Flooding: Akwa Ibom urges emergency management to be on alert

In an attempt to forestall the threatening flood cases in Akwa Ibom State, the State Executive Council has called for a review of the flood map capacity of the state.
The council also directed all relevant agencies involved in emergency management to be on alert.
The Commissioner for Information And Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong, made the disclosure on Wednesday after the State Executive Council meeting presided by the Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel at Government House, Uyo.
The Commissioner said the council has also mandated the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, to start sensitization in rural areas which he said is a step in managing a possible occurrence of flooding.
According to him, “the recent threat of flooding in some areas of the state also received attention of the Council. The Council has called for a review of the flood map capacity of the state, directing that all relevant agencies involved in emergency management should be on red alert.
“The council also mandated the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, to start sensitization in rural areas as a step in managing a possible occurrence.”
The Commissioner also disclosed that the state government-owned Four-Point By Sheraton Hotel at Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area has been completed and handed over to its new management, Marriott International, for commencement of operations
