FUBARA: PDP Blasts Akpabio As He Mentions Where New Rivers Gov Should Come From

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Rivers State chapter has urged the Senate President, Godswil Akpabio, to exercise caution in his statements and refrain from exacerbating the already tense political climate in the state.
Speaking on behalf of the party, the Rivers PDP Publicity Secretary, Tambari Sydney Gbara, responded to Akpabio’s recent remarks at an event in Port Harcourt, where he suggested that Governor Siminialayi Fubara be succeeded by someone from the Ogoni ethnic group.
While acknowledging the significance of the Ogoni governorship project, Tambari emphasized that Akpabio’s timing was inappropriate given the current political tension and the distance to the election.

Tambari highlighted Governor Fubara’s strong support from the Ogonis, noting their positive relationship with neighboring communities and ongoing development projects in Bori town, the Ogoni headquarters.
He remarked, “The Senate President, as a respected leader in the South-South region, should promote dialogue and harmony rather than divisive rhetoric, especially considering there is a sitting governor. Such comments undermine the dignity of the governor’s office.”
Tambari further underscored that Governor Fubara, as the leader of the PDP in the state, would choose his successor with the backing of the people, similar to past transitions.

Regarding Akpabio’s mention of the 2027 election amid economic challenges, Tambari criticized the diversion from addressing pressing issues, urging focus on solutions rather than speculative politics.
He urged Rivers residents to disregard Akpabio’s remarks and remain steadfast in supporting Governor Fubara’s vision for the state’s progress, while also advocating for prayers for national leadership’s wisdom and guidance through challenging times.
