Funke Akindele Breaks Silence On How She Joined PDP 3 Months Ago

By Adeleye Kunle
Funke Akindele, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDPDeputy )’s Governorship candidate in Lagos State, has admitted that she is a political novice, having only joined the party three months ago, TrackNews reports.
Akindele, whose nomination was announced on Tuesday, appeared yesterday on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today.’
According to the Nollywood actress, she decided to enter politics after considering the consequences for herself, her fans, her career, and the people of Lagos.
She denied claims that her nomination was rushed, saying that the governorship candidate, Olajide Adediran, made the right choice in selecting her.
The actress stated that Adediran encouraged her to do so, which she described as a “step in the right direction that she could not afford to ignore.”
“I’ve been managing people for over two decades, and I know where the shoe pinches many of our people in Lagos,” she added.
When asked when she decided to enter politics, Akindele replied, “I joined the PDP about three months ago.” When our party’s governorship candidate, Olajide Adediran, approached me, I saw it as an opportunity to help him rescue the state from its infrastructure deficit.
“Although I have been managing people for over two decades, my interest in entering state politics was piqued when Jandor, our governorship candidate, approached me to do it with him.” “I jumped at it right away.”
Akindele, who stated that she is tired of complaining, stated that she is coming to protect children, youths, and women.
When asked how she planned to make the claimed impact in Lagos, she stated that she was reviewing the level of challenges in Lagos. This, she claims, will guide the party’s development strategy.
“The governorship candidate and myself have our followers both on social media and at the grassroots,” she said when asked about the party’s chances of winning the election in 2023.
Akindele stated that she has received positive feedback and reception from the public since announcing her intention. She did, however, admit to receiving a lot of backlash for joining the PDP. However, she stated that in order to win, she needed to “identify with a party with a structure and solid base, which is the PDP.”
