G5 Governors in Enugu: What Motivates Us – Ortom
Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
The principles that drove the group of five (G5) governors elected on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform have been revealed to represent integrity, patriotism, equity, fairness, and justice.
Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State made the announcement yesterday at the Government House in Enugu, during a cultural night and dinner hosted by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his colleagues.
Governors Nyesom Ezenwo Wike (Rivers) and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) were also present at the event, while Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State was away on official business.
Ortom stated that the G5 Governors, also known as Integrity Governors, were committed to Nigeria’s peace, unity, and progress, stating that “we want things to work.”
“Our passion is how can we make things work here in Nigeria by being disciplined,” the Benue governor said, adding, “it is not about ourselves; it is not about our ego; it is about what we would do to turn things around and ensure the rule of law, due process, and integrity in what we do, so that we will have other people visiting us, so that there will be security, so that our economy will be on the right path.”
Noting that proposing solutions to Nigeria’s situation was beyond political affiliation, Ortom emphasized the need for all hands to work together to make the country work for the people’s benefit.
“The difficulty is that we can see that we are approaching the bottom. But, by the grace of God, we will all join hands. It is not just about President Buhari, or political parties like the APC, PDP, or others, but about how we can work together to make things work for our country, Nigeria,” he said.
“We have been blessed by God.” We have everything we need to make Nigeria not only the giant of Africa, but also the giant of the world if we can band together and work together for our common good.”
On behalf of the G5 Governors, he thanked Ugwuanyi and Enugu State stakeholders present at the dinner, including the Deputy Governor, Hon. Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Edward Ubosi, the PDP state Chairman, Hon. Augustine Nnamani, the PDP governorship candidate, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, his running mate, Ifeanyi Oss
