Gabon: Charly Boy denied calling for coup in Nigeria

A popular Nigerian singer, Charly Boy, has distanced himself from calls for a coup in Nigeria, following backlash from citizens and a barrage of attacks.
Via a tweet on Sunday, September 3, Charly Boy explained that his earlier remark was misinterpreted and berated media outfits that ran it for engaging in “cheap, stupid sensationalism”.
He said: “Dem wan take me do scapegoat? How “E dey Pain Me” turn into a call for coup. Der fathers”, he wrote on the social media platform X, hitherto known as Twitter.
The Nigerian musician known to be one of Peter Obi’s supporters had expressed pains that God is not heeding his prayer in Nigeria as He has done in Gabon, Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso, where soldiers had staged coups to overthrow the elected governments.
His earlier post read: “Oh lord how can we be praying in Nigeria and you are answering prayers in Gabon, Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali.”
Meanwhile, the military junta in Gabon has said that it wants to avoid rushing into elections that “repeat past mistakes” as pressure mounts to hand back power to a civilian government.
A spokesman for Gabon’s military rulers also said on state TV that they “decided with immediate effect to reopen the land, sea and air borders as of this Saturday”.
