Ganduje frees 170 prison inmates
KANO State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, on Sallah day, facilitated the freedom of 170 prison inmates from the Goron Dutse Prison and across the state.
Ganduje, who witnessed the release of the inmates from the Goron Dutse Prison, said the gesture was in the spirit of Eid-El-Kabir, adding that the gesture was to complement the Federal Government’s efforts to further reduce congestion in the nation’s prisons.
While pardoning the 170 inmates, Ganduje urged them to be of good behaviour, as well as use their new freedom to not only become useful to themselves but to the society at large.
He said, “President Muhammadu Buhari has directed all governors in the country to do everything possible to decongest the prisons. What we have done today is in compliance with the directive of the President. We care about you and your welfare”
“There is no better time to show you how much we care about you than this day, on this Sallah day. We want you to become good citizens as you go back into the society.
“You must shun crimes and discourage others from it. We hope you would become better persons contributing to the development of the state positively”
Since the inception of the Ganduje-led administration, a total of 2,000 inmates have so far been set free at various times by the governor.
