Gbagi found guilty of torture and fined N1 million by a court

By Adeleye Kunle
In a suit brought by one Mr Victor Ephraim, Justice Vera Agbodje of a Delta State High Court awarded N1 million to Kenneth Gbagi and his Signatious Hotel in the state’s Uvwie Local Government Area.
The claimant, Ephraim, had alleged through his counsel, Mr. Kunle Edun, that on September 17 and 18, 2020, he was dehumanized and tortured by Gbagi security aides acting on his orders, and that he and three other female hotel employees were then accused of diverting money paid by a guest.
During their ordeal, he claimed that his ATM card and those of others were forcibly taken and their personal funds transferred to the hotel’s accounts.
In the judgment, Justice Agbodje dismissed Gbagi’s arguments as false, unbelievable, and fabricated, and then awarded N1 million to the claimant, Ephraim.
Meanwhile, Gbagi, the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) governorship candidate in the state, announced that he had filed an appeal against the ruling.
