Gbenga Daniel mourns death of FCMB founder Subomi Balogun
Former governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel, has expressed shock and sadness at the news of the death of Otunba Subomi Balogun, a business mogul and founder of First City Monument Bank, FCMB.
Balogun, 89, reportedly died in a London hospital, where he was taken for treatment.
In a statement made available to DAILY POST, Daniel described the late Balogun, who was until his death the Olori Omoba Otunba Tunwase of Ijebuland and Asiwaju of Ijebu Christians, as someone who “brought the fear of God into everything that he did and believed in.”
He also avowed that he “united the body of Christ while promoting interfaith relationships in the entire Ijebuland to the best of his ability.”
Daniel, who is senator-elect for Ogun East, said he shared a lot in common with Otunba Balogun, who was a father figure to him and supported his administration when he was governor of Ogun State.
“He was a man whom I have the greatest respect for, both in royalty and in the business world,” he said, noting that “Nigeria has indeed lost one of its illustrious sons.”
