Yahaya Bello, the governor of Kogi State, believes that the reason the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike has persisted is because Nigeria’s elites are playing with the nation’s future.

This was revealed by Bello on Friday while he was a guest on Sunrise Daily on Channels Television.

The governor expressed sadness that the future of the country is not being taken seriously, adding that he has been closely following the extended standoff between ASUU and the Federal Government.

Governor Bello firmly said, “Nigeria’s elites,” when asked who is playing with the destiny of the nation, adding that “elite cuts across board – both those in government and ASUU itself.”

The ASUU problem, according to Governor Bello, would have been settled in a flash if everyone concerned had been sincere about the country’s advancement.

The governor expressed sympathy for Nigerian students and their families, but he also insisted that the country’s problems weren’t solely the responsibility of the federal government. As a result, he urged Nigerians to stop politicking with the nation’s future.

He asserts that individuals in charge of resolving the ASUU problem have not exhibited enough integrity.

The governor emphasized that the government must take decisive action to deal with the now-malignant issue, but added that the leadership of ASUU must also demonstrate good judgment in finding a solution by carefully considering how their decisions will affect people.
