Government of A’Ibom demands China’s assistance in creating jobs

By Adeleye Kunle
The government of Akwa Ibom State has requested collaboration with the Republic of China in key areas of the state economy, which would result in job opportunities for the people of the state.
According to a statement made available in Uyo, governor Emmanuel made the call while hosting the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Cui Jianchun, at Government House in Uyo over the weekend.
He praised Nigeria-China bilateral relations over the years, emphasizing that areas such as education, agriculture, and basic infrastructure should be prioritized for state development.
He emphasized that the collaboration in education and agriculture would lay a solid foundation for future investment in nuclear technology.
“We have not yet reached the level where you want to take us into nuclear power,” he says, “we are still at the basic level.” If you want us to collaborate, let us first feed our people through agriculture, which I know you have done a lot of.
“Let’s start with agriculture, basic social services, basic infrastructure, and education before we get to a point where our people have a better understanding of the ingredients and what the challenges, benefits, and likely environmental impact of nuclear technology will be.”
“Those magical touches you’ve introduced into your economy, specifically your domestic economy, we also have the population, because what initially created the advantage for China is the population, because with the population, you created a major domestic economy where consumption was matched with needs.”
“It will go down in history as the 14th Ambassador who established that synergistic cooperation between what we have in Akwa Ibom State and what you can also offer in terms of technology transfer.”
Earlier, the 14th Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Cui Jianchun, assured the state government of cordial bilateral relations.
He aimed to build on his predecessor’s efforts to foster trade relations with the state, and he praised the governor for his developmental achievements.
“In this state of Akwa Ibom, you have the capability of building a nuclear power plant; in the entire country, only Akwa Ibom and Kogi have the capability of building a nuclear power plant.” So I believe you can capitalize on this advantage in the future.”
Jianchun emphasized
