2923: Wike’s Camp Will Meet Next Week, Per PDP Crisis
Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
The camp of Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike is anticipated to gather the following week to discuss its decision to expel Iyorchia Ayu, the party’s national chairman, from the organization.
This comes after Atiku Abubakar’s campaign for president of the party declared that Ayu will continue in office.
Charles Aniagwu, the campaign spokesman for Atiku’s presidential campaign committee, stated on Arise TV on Saturday that the party is looking into alternative ways to address the crisis within the party.
If Ayu is ousted from office, the deputy chairman (North) would have to take over in terms of the party’s constitution, according to Aniagwu.
Aniagwu pointed out that this won’t end the party’s crisis because Governor Wike’s side wants a Southerner to take Ayu’s place.
Governor Wike stated on Saturday that the party’s National Executive Council would maintain the Chairman in office regardless of any vote of confidence.
The governor of Rivers State said this during the celebratory gathering for more than 90 people who joined the PDP after leaving other political parties on Saturday at Isaac Adaka Boro Park in Port Harcourt.
Governor Wike’s camp will meet next week to deliberate on their course of action, according to a source who talked with Tracknews on Sunday.
The committee would convene the following week, the insider stated. Most
the source reported “Next week, the group will convene. Abuja is most likely to be the location. After the NEC conference, however, Wike and his troops have received numerous peace offers.”
