Governor Obaseki Celebrates Election Victory On The Streets Of Benin With Residents [PHOTOS]
TRACKING_____The capital city of Edo state, the ancient city of Benin has been on celebration mode for two days now ever since the governorship elections took place.
Earlier today, monday, it was a mini carnival when the Governor took to the streets with his teeming supporters in celebration of the election victory.
With the announcement of the results by INEC who declared the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki as the winner, there was massive joy in the state as people trooped out to the streets in jubilation.
The elections had been keenly contested as the two heavyweights, the incumbent, Obaseki of the PDP and the candidate of the APC, Osagie Ize Iyamu had slug it out on both sides to win the heart of Edolites.
The interesting part of the whole exercise was the fact that the APC candidate, Ize Iyamu had the backing of the ex-governor and ex-national chairman of the party, Adams oshiomole.
It was also seen as a ‘federal might’ against ‘state might’ affairs as Obaseki had just his citizens to rely on as he had just defected to the PDP only but some months to the elections.
In the build up to the elections, the Asiwaju of Lagos and the national leader of the APC, Bola Tinubu, had made a video where he called out Edolites to vote out the incumbent governor, Obaseki.
The video, according to public analyst had spurred Edolites to vote en mass for Obaseki.
The slogan “Edo no be Lagos” was the slogan of the day as the indigenes swore never to allow the alleged interference of godfathers in Edo politics.
From the first LGA that was announced, the incumbent carried the day as he went on to clinch more LGAS. and eventually win the election.
The celebration in the streets of Edo therefore, show the solidarity of the people who stood with their governor to win a common battle.
