Governor Tambuwal presents N188.4 billion 2022 budget to Sokoto Assembly

The governor said that the 2022 budget of N188.4 billion is lower than the current 2021 budget of N205,016,512,295.41 by N16,587,016,447.78.

The governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, presented a budget proposal of N188,429,495,847.63 for the 2022 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly on Monday.

Mr Tambuwal presented the budget tagged “Budget of accomplishments and sustainable development” in Sokoto.

He said the 2022 budget is lower than the current 2021 budget of N205,016,512,295.41 by N16,587,016,447.78.

He said it consists of both the recurrent and capital expenditures approved by the Assembly.

According to Mr Tambuwal, the 2022 budget proposal consists of recurrent expenditure amounting to N75,871,203,284.34 and representing 40.03 per cent, while the sum of N112,558,292,563.29 represents 59.7 per cent capital expenditure of the total estimate.

“The sectoral allocation for the year 2022 shows that Education has the highest vote of N37,006,032,670.92 which is 20 per cent, followed by Health with N28,806,855,774.52, representing 15 per cent.

“This is followed by Agriculture with N22,551,438,538.42, representing 12 per cent, then Infrastructure with the sum of N18,176,537,119.57 which is 10 per cent of the total budget.

“However, the remaining sum of N81,888,631,774.20 is allocated to other expenditures and it represents 43 per cent of the total budget,” he said.

The governor said that the year 2021 featured security challenges and economic predicament in the country which affected all the states of the federation.

“Despite such challenges, Sokoto State recorded tremendous success in the implementation of last year’s budget. This was made possible by our individual and collective commitment to transparency and good governance.

“Undoubtedly, this administration has executed numerous development projects in education, healthcare service delivery, agriculture, environment and infrastructural development, among others.

“Also, numerous projects and programmes have been executed and commissioned, designed to uplift the general welfare of the people and security of lives and property,” he added.

Responding, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Aminu Achida, thanked the governor for presenting the budget at a time he described as appropriate.

He said the Assembly would expedite action in passing the bill for the government to continue to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the citizenry.
