Governorship election: APC has no candidate in Taraba – PDP cautions INEC

As the people of Taraba State troop out on Saturday to vote their next governor, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Wednesday, said the All Progressives Congress, APC, has no valid candidate for the election.
PDP made the declaration in line with the Supreme Court judgment of February 1, 2023 in suit No SC/CV/1564/2022.
The Supreme Court had ruled that any political party that failed to comply with the provisions of the electoral act over selection of a candidate, shall not be included in the election.
In line with the judgment, PDP said the APC can’t field any valid candidate in Saturday’s governorship election.
In a statement by it’s spokesman, Debo Ologunagba, PDP said: “The Independent National Electoral Commission, the good people of Taraba State and the general public are invited to note that the import of the judgement of the Supreme Court is to the effect that the APC cannot validly field a candidate in the March 18, 2023 governorship election in Taraba State, having failed to comply with the mandatory provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022, with regards to the conduct of its governorship primary in Taraba State.”
Ologunagba said INEC can’t accept any governorship candidate in Taraba State from the APC following the Supreme Court ruling.
He warned the people of Taraba State that votes cast for the APC on Saturday would amount to waste.
“The people of Taraba State must note that any vote therefore cast or credited to the APC in the March 18, 2023, Governorship election in Taraba State will be treated as wasted vote,” he added
