Group appeals to Buhari on debt clearance

The association who spoke through its PRO and Chairman of Shelter Watch Initiatives, Mr. Segun Olutade made the plea at a press conference in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, yesterday.

Olutade called on President Buhari to remember his promise of lifting one hundred million Nigerians out of poverty by 2030 through project ‘T Max.’

He explained that the project, T Max being an intervention programme of the Federal Government was contracted in November last year with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed to release the money in tranches; 30 percent of the total fund at the commencement of the project, 50 percent at advance stage and 20 percent at the completion.

Olutade said apart from 30 percent that was paid to some trainers several weeks after the commencement of the programme, the balance of 70 percent of the total fund is still hanging after months of the completion.

He added that none of the avalanche of promises made to the youths such as monthly stipends, starter packs, NSQ certification was fulfilled.

The building expert noted that most of the youths trained at the border town of Ayetoro in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, who genuinely dropped smuggling and embraced plumbing and electrical installation are already going back into their traditional trades of smuggling and okada riding.

Reacting to the allegation, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Education Interventions, Mr. Fela Bank-Olemoh assured the trainers of prompt payment of the money in no distant time.

Bank-Olemoh said the Ministry of Finance and Budget had released the money into the account of Industrial Training Fund (ITF) and the final payment would be made into the trainers’ account as soon as ITF completed the final audit processes.

“The ITF has confirmed that anytime from now the final disbursement will be made not only for them but also for the students who are supposed to get stipends,” he explained.

ith 16 days to the expiration of the Buhari-led administration, the trainers for the Federal Government intervention programme tagged: ‘T Max’, under the aegis of Trainers Association of Nigeria (TAN), Ogun State Chapter has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to impress it on his Senior Special Assistant on Education Interventions, Mr. Fela Bank-Olemoh to clear debts owing youths and trainers across seven states.
