Gunmen kidnap Ondo ADC senatorial candidate, chairman
Senatorial Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for Ondo North Senatorial District, Mr. Jide Ipinsagba, and the Ondo State Chairman of the party, Mr. Bisi Ogungbemi, have been kidnapped on the Owo- Ikare Road. The Owo-Ikare Road has become notorious for high profile kidnapping in the past few months as prominent indigenes, including monarchs, have been kidnapped on the road. Ipinsagba and Ogungbemi as well as three other chieftains of the party were on Wednesday night abducted by gunmen at Oba-Akoko in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of the state. The victims were going from Ikare Akoko to Akure after a political outing when they ran into the kidnappers.
The incident occurred about seven o’clock on Wednesday’s evening. Ipinsagba recently dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) for ADC to actualise his senatorial aspiration. Those kidnapped alongside Ipinsagba and Ogungbemi were his driver and another chieftain, Princess Abdulkareem. It was learnt that the vehicles of the victims were seen on the roadside while information on their whereabouts is still sketchy as at the time of filling the reports. Family sources said the gunmen had not been contacted for ransom.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Femi Joseph, confirmed the abduction. He said the command was working to secure the release of the victims.
