‘Healthy Actors Should Stop Coming Out To Beg’ – Jaiye Kuti Responds To Backlash
Popular Yoruba Nollywood actress, Jaiye Kuti, has responded to those criticizing her for berating veteran movie stars who are begging fans for financial support.
TRACKNEWS earlier reported that Jaiye Kuti, in a video making the rounds online, expressed displeasure over the recent trend of veteran movie stars begging fans for financial support and car gifts online.
According to her, such an act is tarnishing and giving the Nollywood community bad names, stressing that it is high time movie stars stop the trend.
She stressed that Nollywood is not a pension-based industry and that thespians are supposed to prepare for their future during their young and active years.
She further implied that some of those actors begging fans online may have recklessly wasted their earnings during their younger days.
However, Jaiye Kuti’s outburst sparked mixed reactions online as some colleagues claimed it was disrespectful.
Responding, the actress in another video insisted that ailing actors can solicit help online, adding that those who are healthy should stop coming out to beg.
She said, “I don’t just talk anyhow, people don’t understand what I am saying. I read over 500 comments and I am addressing those who misunderstood my message.
“I didn’t say we should use social media to help people or that people should come out to ask for help, but my message is for those who want to spoil the industry’s name with begging.
“I have also used my social media to seek help for people, and they have sent messages appreciating me.
“I am talking to those who feel entitled to getting help because others are getting help from Nigerians. I told two of those veterans not to come out and beg for help so that when they are in dire need, they wouldn’t lack helpers.
“Let only those who are sick, seek help, but those who are healthy, they should stop coming out to beg”.
